01What is measured
Each benchmark names the variable it reports (factor rate, advance size, term, holdback), the unit, the period covered and the sample it was drawn from. A figure without a stated sample is marked illustrative and is not a measurement.
02Where the data comes from
Figures are produced from anonymized funding applications and offers the desk has visibility into, and from public sources named on the report. No figure is derived from a single application. Personal and business identifiers are removed before any aggregation.
03Aggregation
Averages are arithmetic means unless the report says otherwise; ranges give the interquartile span where the sample allows, otherwise the observed low and high. Industries are grouped by the applicant's stated industry. Periods are calendar quarters unless stated.
04What is not done
The desk does not model, forecast or extrapolate. It does not adjust figures for credit profile or position count unless the report says so. It does not publish a figure it cannot trace to a sample or a named source.
05Revisions
A report that changes after publication keeps its original date and carries a revision note with the date and what changed. The citation block always refers to the current version.
06Citing the desk
Reports may be quoted with attribution to Holdback Monitor, the report title, its date and its URL. The citation block at the foot of each report gives the reference in a copyable form.
