About Holdback Monitor
Holdback Monitor is a research desk. It publishes benchmark figures and reports on the merchant cash advance market and keeps the method in view on every page.
The desk exists because the pricing of merchant cash advances is largely unpublished. Business owners, journalists and underwriters work from anecdote; the desk works from counted applications and named sources, and says which is which.
The desk is compensated when a business that arrives through this site is placed with a funding partner from its network. Benchmark figures are produced independently of that activity and are not adjusted to favour any product or partner.
There are no bylines here. Reports are the work of the desk and are reviewed against the method on the methodology page before publication. Corrections are published, dated and kept.
How the desk is paid
Holdback Monitor is compensated by a funding partner when a business that requests options through this site is funded. Nobody pays to read a report, and benchmark figures are not adjusted to favour any product or partner.
The network
Holdback Monitor works with an exclusive network of funding partners and marketing partners. When you submit a request, we may share your information with those partners to evaluate and present funding options. We do not sell your information for unrelated purposes.
- 01
Numbers before words
A report leads with its figures. Interpretation is kept short and is never allowed to change a figure.
- 02
Sample and period stated
Every figure names what it was drawn from and when. A figure without either is labelled illustrative.
- 03
Nothing invented
No figure is estimated to fill a gap. An empty cell stays empty.
- 04
Corrections kept
Revisions are dated and noted on the report; superseded figures are not silently replaced.

Tell the desk what you are trying to measure. Requests shape the next report.
